Chopad (‘four legs’) is probably the oldest indigenous game of India. It is believed that Chopad dates back to the sixth century. However, the game may well be older, as a Chopad board was found etched in stone at the Indus Valley Civilization site of Dholavira. To date, during wedding ceremonies Rajput men, to ensure the good fortune of the groom, stay awake an entire night chatting, drinking tea, smoking bidis, and playing lively games of Chopad.
